Job Title: Coding Instructor for Kids (Create Website!)

Description

This is a 100% remote part-time position: teaching a small group of kids (ages 10+) web fundamentals. 

Time/Duration 

It is part-time during summer  with possibility of extension. Class time is likely to be after 5 pm(PST) or flexible. 

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a coding instructor who can inspire and teach young students web fundamentals. All our programs are project based with real world examples. We like to do it in  a small and interactive setting. Do you enjoy coding and teaching one to children? Do you like to make a difference in the next generation?  We’d love to learn more from you!

Why you want to work with us

Make a difference in young students with limited resources by teaching them the most demanding technical skill- coding. This will be a great chance for those who are interested in careers in IT Project Managers or Front End Developers. 

Top 3 Responsibilities

  • Prepare and Review  teaching materials: simple and organized 

  • Teach and motivate  children to code in an interactive way

  • Answer questions from students for the assignments (TA can support)

    General Responsibilities

  • Teach a small group of children from web fundamentals to complete the portfolio website on Github: prior teaching experience is desired

  • Explain with simple and fun examples (we love cookie monsters, lemonade war)

  • Work with the program manager to develop curriculum and teaching materials before the class

  • Set up Atom and create a directory to save HTML, CSS, Image files that connect and work for the website

  • Teach with compassion and patience towards young students (ages 10+)


Required

  • Solid HTML, CSS, Javascript coding knowledge 

  • Experience to create the website from scratch on Github

  • Teaching experience with young children or desire to have one

  • Being comfortable in video recording (DPM will edit ): all classes are Zoom and will be recorded to be uploaded to the website as a part of knowledge sharing. 

  • Communication: Simple & Clear

  • Responsibility and humility to work as a team and be an inspiration for children

  • Quiet environment for the online class/recording and have an external microphone for the clear communication and class recording

Nice to have

  • Critical thinking and problem solving 

  • Writing instructions and teaching materials, syllabus, guidelines

  • Able to motivate and make the technical stuff sound interesting that children may get engaged
